Spiced Meatballs in Tomato Sauce

🧂 Ingredients
For the meatballs:
• 500g ground beef
• 2 garlic cloves, minced
• 1 small onion, grated
• 2 slices of white bread, soaked in milk and squeezed dry
• 1 egg
• 1½ tsp ground cumin
• ½ tsp cinnamon
• Salt and pepper to taste
• Chopped parsley (optional)
• Olive oil (for frying)
For the tomato sauce:
• 400g canned crushed tomatoes
• 2 garlic cloves, minced
• 2 carrots
• ½ tsp cinnamon
• ½ tsp cumin (optional for stronger spice)
• Salt and pepper to taste
• 2–3 tbsp olive oil
🔪 Instructions
1. Make the meatballs:
Mix all meatball ingredients in a bowl. Knead well until combined. Shape into oblong meatballs (~6 cm long).
2. Pan-fry:
Heat olive oil in a skillet and lightly brown the meatballs (don’t cook through). Set aside.
3. Make the sauce:
In a clean pan, sauté garlic in olive oil until fragrant. Add crushed tomatoes, chopped carrots, cinnamon, cumin, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
4. Combine:
Add browned meatballs to the sauce and simmer on low for 20–25 minutes until cooked through and sauce thickens.
Serve with rice, mashed potatoes, or fried potatoes.
