For the meatballs:

• 500g ground beef

• 2 garlic cloves, minced

• 1 small onion, grated

• 2 slices of white bread, soaked in milk and squeezed dry

• 1 egg

• 1½ tsp ground cumin

• Â½ tsp cinnamon

• Salt and pepper to taste

• Chopped parsley (optional)

• Olive oil (for frying)

For the tomato sauce:

• 400g canned crushed tomatoes

• 2 garlic cloves, minced

• 2 carrots

• Â½ tsp cinnamon

• Â½ tsp cumin (optional for stronger spice)

• Salt and pepper to taste

• 2–3 tbsp olive oil

🔪 Instructions

1. Make the meatballs:

Mix all meatball ingredients in a bowl. Knead well until combined. Shape into oblong meatballs (~6 cm long).

2. Pan-fry:

Heat olive oil in a skillet and lightly brown the meatballs (don’t cook through). Set aside.

3. Make the sauce:

In a clean pan, sauté garlic in olive oil until fragrant. Add crushed tomatoes, chopped carrots, cinnamon, cumin, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.

4. Combine:

Add browned meatballs to the sauce and simmer on low for 20–25 minutes until cooked through and sauce thickens.

Serve with rice, mashed potatoes, or fried potatoes.
